Previously, officials visited homes to verify and include eligible voters- putting the onus on the Election Commission (EC). The new process flips that entirely. Now, citizens must ***prove their eligibility, making it an exclusion-driven approach rather than an inclusion-driven one***. This shift fundamentally changes the spirit of democratic participation which we have embodied since 1947.

2) The requirement for documents like birth certificates/ land records in a state where documentation is often lacking or inconsistent raises serious concerns. Add to that the unrealistically short window given to procure these documents- it feels less like an administrative update and more like a calculated move. The result : Disenfranchisement at scale.

3) While some criticize the tight timeline, one must argue that in the age of smartphones, Aadhaar, and digitization, faster rollouts should be possible. But here’s the catch- the process isn’t fully online. There's still a mountain of paperwork involved which reflects poor planning, inadequate training, lack of digital infrastructure, and a chaotic mix of arbitrary rules. It’s a bureaucratic mess dressed up as reform- a hogwash of epic proportions.

Yes we need electoral roll revision whereby the draft list has 70-200 voters listed at the same address, dead people reappearing on the lists, a dozen people with just 'Muhammad' as the given name and father's name with no photo or signature, and also a Muhammad listed as female in that list.

That's the story everywhere I guess. Last time when I went to give in my vote, there was a poor old lady before me. She went ahead to cast the vote but the volunteer told her she has already given the vote. Lady kept telling them she didn't come before this. Somehow someone else cast a vote fraudulently on her behalf. And this happened in the capital.

The ECI has some serious issues. I know so many of my friends who have incorrect spellings of their names on electoral rolls. It wouldn't be an exaggeration if I mention that not a single household will have every detail correct of every member. There will be at least 1 anomaly. So things like SIR need to be done but the ECI needs to be more efficient.
